Lagoon Watersports combines an excellent choice of watersporting activities, with the latest high tech equipment at two great venues - Hove Lagoon and Brighton Marina.
 
Course numbers are kept to a minimum and run by experienced friendly staff that have a genuine passion for watersports and instructing.
 
Whether you plan to sail a yacht across the Atlantic, take a powerboat for a spin in the Med, put your first steps on a windsurf board or introduce your child to watersports – our flexible, and person centred approach focuses on your individual needs.
 
Our aim is to enable you to achieve your goals whilst enjoying a great quality experience. Through our professionalism, enthusisam and passion for sailing, powerboating and windsurfing, you will find that Lagoon Watersports offers highly addictive sports!

History

 
  • We started in the mid 80’s as a windsurf school under the name of Sailboarding 80’s.
     
  • The current centre was built in 1994 with a joint pulbic and private partnership involing ourselves, Hove council, Sports Council, and the Foundation for Arts and Sport.
  • We have grown from operating with 12 windsurf boards to becoming one of the most dynamic and thriving watersports centres in the UK.
  • We were the first centre in the UK to offer Zap Cat power boating and we are the UK’s No.1 location for this thrilling craft.
  • We were the first centre in the country to offer a “Gym Style” membership scheme In 2001 we opened a second centre in Brighton Marina offering yacht sailing , powerboating and dinghy sailing.
  • In 2003 we have added a full range of yachting practical and theory courses on our two brand new 36 foot racing yachts.
  • We offer the best selection of high perfomance windsurfing equipment for hire in the UK.
  • In 2007 we opened our first oversea operation, Lagoon Espana. Offering Yachting sailing , Zap Cats and corporate events from Barcelona.
     
  • In 2008 we became home to the regions RYA Onboard youth development officer with the goal of developing youth sailing and windsurfing with in the area.
  • In 2009 entered our first Fastnet ycaht race with a crew trained at the centre.
  • In 2010 we opened the first RYA Motor Cruiser school in Brighton Marina
  • In 2010 we teamed up with World windsurfing Champion Nik Baker to become a North and Fanatic windsurf test centre also brought a new yacht "Run" for the Marina.                                                                    
  • In 2011 we started our wakeboarding cable scheme at the Lagoon. We jazzed up our Marina building and  purchased more Keel Boats. We also opened a new centre for yacht courses at Gosport.

Mark Saul - Lagoon Watersports Hove Lagoon Manager
I have a dual role at the Lagoon. I am manager of the Hove Lagoon centre, but I am also the Onboard youth sailing development officer for the Royal Yachting Association. With one hand I make sure everything is running smoothly at the Lagoon and with the other I liase with schools, community groups, sailing clubs and other watersports centres to get more kids out on the water.
Qualifications:  Powerboat, Dinghy Senor Intsructor, Windsurf FastFwd instructor 
Favorite watersport: Windsurfing

Paul Hopkins - Lagoon Watersports Marina Manager
I am manager of the Marina centre. I oversee the operational side of the Marina and make sure everything runs smoothly - from courses, to co-operate events, to stag and hen doos.
Qualifications: Yacht Master Instructor, Powerboat Instructor, Keelboat Senior Instructor, Windsurf Intermediate Instructor, Mountain Leader, Climbing Instructor

What I do when not at work? I love to windsurf and snowboard. I have started to train for the triathlon this year.

When you first call us you may not know anything about sailing or windsurfing. We hope to introduce you to the joys of watersports as well as introducing you to new friends with a similar passion.

Favorite watersports: Kite surfing
Why at the lagoon? Great atmoshpere, great people and being by the sea
What i do when not at work? Laze around in the sunshine, look after my son, walk my dog and enjoy life.
 
Deborah Trench - Marina Office  
Qualifications: 1st Class BA Media & International Relations
Favorite watersport: Wakeboarding & Sailing    
Why at the Lagoon? A bit hard to avoid - my partner is one of the directors and my sons that are under 3 already have the sailing bug!    
What I do when not at work? Run after the kids. I love to read and travel. I swim, ski and horse ride.   
 
Sarah Rossiter - Marina Office
Qualifications: Cruising Instructor & Yacht Master
Favorite Watersports: Sailing
Why at the Lagoon? A lovely healthy atmosphere

I have been with Lagoon Watersports since 1993. Sailing is my passion and I have been developing and running our Marina site. When I am not chained to the phone or computer I am playing Dad to my two young sons or cycling in the South Downs.

Windsurfing is my thing,in particular, wave riding. 
I now live in West Cornwall, trying to combine running the admin and planning side of the Lagoon with sneaking off for a sail or a surf. When not staring at a computer screen or sailing I can be found Thai boxing.
