Kids Windsurfing

Learn to

The Kids & Youth Windsurf Stage 1 course is the ideal way to learn to windsurf. The combination of special light weight sails designed for kids and the shallow calm waters of Hove Lagoon mean windsurfing is fully accessible to kids as young as 8.

Improve RYA Stage 2

The Kids & Youth Windsurf Stage 2 course builds on the practical skills learnt during the Stage 1 course to get kids windsurfing around a course practicing tacking and gybing, enabling them to make progression towards and away from the wind, and to master tacking and gybing in light winds. All specialised equipment is provided, including wetsuits.

Private Lesson

A private 1 to 1 windsurf lesson with a friendly, qualified RYA instructor offers an intensive way to learn or improve your windsurfing.

Practice

Once kids have the windsurfing bug they can come and windsurf regularly with us hiring by the hour or joining the club.

Customer Reviews

Wakeboarding was really good fun and Hove Lagoon was a good location. The staff are nice and the water was clean. I would really recommend this to anyone who doesn’t mind getting wet, because you will get wet! Even if you have not done it before it is easy to learn. The most enjoyable bit is being on the water at fast speed and not falling off

My son Joshua has just finished the children’s watersports course that was on this week. He really enjoyed it and had such a great time. Just wanted to let you know how much fun he had and to say thank you for looking after him and introducing him to watersports! He is keen to do more sailing in the future.

Claire

On my first go, I got up on my feet and I was wakeboarding! Then I fell, but I got up and did it again and again until I could do a jump start and get to the other end of the lagoon faultlessly. It was challenging with the cold water and wind but the thrill made up for it without a doubt. Overall a great trip which put a smile on my face for the rest of the day

Frequently Asked Questions

Is standup paddleboarding suitable for children? 2018-02-18T11:21:58+00:00

Yes they love it. At Lagoon Watersports we have shorter paddles for little people and as Hove Lagoon is only waist deep it is very easy for them to enjoy it.

Inherent risks 2018-02-17T09:33:59+00:00

We have taken all reasonable steps to provide your child with the level of care and assurances of safety appropriate to the activities they will undertake. However, you should be aware that certain inherent risks remain which are integral to the activity and which cannot be eliminated without destroying their unique character. Such risks can lead to feelings of discomfort, fear and apprehension and in some very rare cases, injury.

Parent briefings 2018-02-18T11:13:35+00:00

The kids courses which run during the school holidays start with a short parent briefing. Please take the time to attend this briefing as it will explain how the course works and other information we feel you should know.

Lost property : 2018-02-05T16:51:06+00:00

We get a lot of lost property and it can be very difficult to identify items, particularly when wet.

  • Please encourage your children to take everything home at the end of their session.
  • Please name your children’s clothing
  • If you leave something behind contact us as soon as possible, ideally the same day.
Do you take photos of kids activities 2018-02-05T16:47:45+00:00

We frequently take photos and videos of activity sessions involving both adults and under 16’s. These may be used in our brochures, social media and other promotional material.

If you do not want photos taken of your child please let us know.

How do I know my child is in a safe environment? 2018-02-17T09:29:15+00:00

We take the safety of all our customers very seriously and in particular children. All the staff are DBS checked, they are all qualified by the NGB of their sport so this will be the RYA, BWSW and BSUPA. Many of them are qualified with all of the above. To become an instructor they all have to have a current First Aid Certificate. Both the Brighton Marina and Hove Lagoon sites are inspected in regard to their equipment and also their operating procedures and have to reach very high standards.

My child is keen to try windsurfing but is quite small and not that strong. 2018-02-20T12:40:21+00:00

At Lagoon Watersports we like to encourage the children to start when they are young so we have some very small sails designed specifically for little people. They are very light so they start with those and as their strength builds and their skills develop they can move to the larger ones.

Changing Bookings 2018-01-26T13:42:54+00:00

Please click here for our full booking terms and conditions and ensure that you understand our cancellation policy.

Be aware rebooking fees are charged for cancellations made with less than 4 weeks notice.

Our cancellation policy applies in all circumstances including no shows, illness, relocation, transport failure and bereavement.

The reason for this is when you make a booking with us we assign staff and equipment to deliver the booking, we are therefore unable to offer that space to anyone else. We will have made commitments to staff for your booking and we may have turned away other bookings. Unfortunately we are unable to get insurance that covers us for this loss. We therefore do not offer refunds for cancellations as we are likely to incur costs.

Course Cancelation Insurance

You can take out insurance to cover the cost of your course against cancellation through CancelSure. Guide cost is £12 for the first £100 of cover and then £6 per additional £100

of cover and an excess of £25 per claim.

Our Advice

  • If you pay by credit card your cancellation maybe covered by your credit card provider.
  • Consider taking out course cancellation insurance.
  • Your holiday insurance may cover you for course when you stay on our boats.

Do the children need their own wetsuits and other equipment? 2018-02-20T12:42:01+00:00

No, all they need to bring on the day is their swimwear and towel. We will provide everything else for them but if they have their own they are very welcome to bring them. Please make sure if they do bring their own that it is labelled.
