Lagoon Membership terms and conditions

Membership is for a MINIMUM period of 1 year. All club members must attend an induction session before using our facilities at either centre.
 
Members that use the facilities and equipment of Lagoon Watersports Centre should  report to the office immediately upon arrival and again before using any facilities . 
 
Users should seek advice from the Duty Manager before using any club equipment or facilities or before going out on the sea. Failure to  adhere to this advice may effect your third party  insurance for taking part in watersports at Lagoon Watersports.

 

Users that ignore the advice of Lagoon Watersports  regarding use of our equipment and facilities will find themselves liable for all damage caused including damage to Lagoon Watersports equipment and all the costs incurred in the event of rescuing the sailor and the equipment.
 
Users should check their equipment or, equipment hired to them by Lagoon Watersports to ensure that it is seaworthy both  before and after usage. Any defects or breakage’s should be reported to Lagoon Watersports immediately. 
 
Users should check the weather forecast to ensure that they are capable of sailing in the prevailing conditions.
 
Lagoon Watersports reserves the right to restrict the hire of equipment on the sea or lagoon at the Duty Managers discretion.
 
Users must wear a suitable buoyancy aid at all times. (The only exception to this requirement is for members over the age of 16 who have progressed to windsurfing RYA Level 2. At this level the windsurfer will be wearing a harness which provides additional buoyancy.)
 
Non swimmers must be water confident and wear a life jacket. 
 
Users must wear appropriate footwear for sailing on Hove Lagoon.
 
Users should at all times show care and consideration to other users of the Lagoon and the sea and observe all requirements of other relevant bodies. (including the local Council and the Coast guard)
 
Users must acknowledge that Lagoon Watersports is under no liability or obligation to them in relation to any loss, injury, damage or any other liability. (Except to the extent that by virtue of any applicable law any such liability cannot be excluded, restricted or limited.)
 
Users must accept full responsibility for their own safety and for any loss or damage to any of the facilities or of the equipment which they may have hired from Lagoon Watersports. Members must agree to indemnify Lagoon Watersports from and against all liabilities, losses, damages, costs, charges and expenses in relation thereto.
 
Wherever possible and subject to paragraph (b), Duty Managers will endeavour to supervise children whilst they are engaged in watersports in the Lagoon and subject to the requirements set out above, including the requirement to observe advice. However Duty Managers cannot be responsible for children at other times.
 
Under -16’s are not permitted to engage in 
watersports or use any of the Club’s equipment other than on the Lagoon except with written parental 
consent and/or under the direct supervision of an adult who may be a parent or other responsible person 
approved by the Club or one of the Duty Managers.
 
Lagoon Watersports reserves the right to alter its opening times. As a guide they are early April until late October. 
 
“Unlimited hire” with Lagoon Watersports means members can hire the equipment as much as they like, for as long as you like subject to the following :
The centres are open - see opening times
You are of a suitable ability for the equipment and conditions
The conditions are suitable for the equipment and your ability
There is know one else wanting the equipment. If there is we operate a fair usage policy which limits your hire to 2 hours.
 
Lagoon Watersports equipment damage policy.
Members are fully liable for damage to all equipment. This is cost to repair to new condition or replace which ever is cheaper. UNLESS taking Members opt for our Damage Waiver which costs £60 per year. This protects members from the cost of any ACCIDENTAL damage to equipment. The waiver is considered null and void if members have ignored the advice of the duty manager. Eg gone windsurfing on the sea when the Duty Manager said not to.
 
Parental/Guardian consent form for under 16’s
We require consent from an appropriate adult for any persons under 16 years old to be allowed to partake in activities on the sea or on the Lagoon without supervision. Lagoon Watersports will only allow under 16’s to go on the sea if we deem that conditions are suitable for them. When using their own equipment they will only be watched periodically, from the beach. They will be responsible, in part, for their own safety and will be relied upon to heed the advice given to them by the Duty Manger. When using our equipment under 16’s may only hire when we have safety cover on offer.
 
Members 10% discount may not be used in conjunction with any other offer. Lagoon Watersports reserves the right to restrict access to water for any reason. Lagoon Watersports reserves the right to add or remove other activities and benefits without notice.
 
Cancelling membership
Your contract is for a minimum period of 1 year and cannot be cancelled within the first 12 months. Paying by standing order is just a way of spreading the annual membership fee. To cancel your membership you must inform us in writing with one months notice. It is your responsibility to cancel your standing order. If you leave the standing order running after you cancel your membership you will not receive any credit. In the event of an error in cancelling the standing order  being made by your bank you will need to contact them.
