You will learn how to sail in all directions, including an awareness of launching and recovering. This course is a great introduction into the sailing world and many people then go onto their RYA Sailing Level 2. Once you have completed you RYA Level 2 you will be a competent sailor and able to sail single handed out at sea. You can also become a member of our Coastal Sailing Club and hire our sailing boats, attend clinics, races and social evens on a regular basis.

This level 1 syllabus covers the following:

  • Rigging
  • How to sail in all directions
  • Crewing and helming
  • Awareness of launching and recovery

Course Objective: Able to sail in light winds under supervision and set your boat up ready for the next time

Prerequisite: None

What to bring: All you need to bring is an old pair of shoes you don’t mind getting wet. Waterproofs, buoyancy aid and equipment hire is included.

I wanted to write to say a big thank you. We were lucky with the weather, which always helps, but the things which were under your control went really well. In particular, I wanted to say how much the enjoyment of the 2 days was down to our instructor, Tom. He was really pragmatic about the pace of what we were learning, and covered everything in a common sense manner without being too rigid about the order in which we did everything. It worked fantastically well.
