This annual race event is one of the largest yacht races in the world – regularly attracting over 1,700 boats of every different shape and size. 16,000 sailors take part in the 1 day race which starts on the famous Royal Yacht Squadron line in Cowes. The course is 50 nautical miles long and races from Cowes along the beautiful Western Solent, out through the Needles, round St Catherine’s Point and back into the Solent to finish back at Cowes. Guaranteed close quarters racing the whole way round the Island this really is a spectacular event and one that every keen sailor should participate in at least once (although we are pretty sure you will be back to do it again!). This is a great opportunity to get onboard with Lagoon Watersports and build your mileage whilst using spinnakers and learning racing tactics. With our two yachts entered in the race we often have exciting duel races too! We have a live race tracker so friends and family can watch your progress during the race.
At Lagoon Watersports we will offer a spot on one of our performance cruisers, you will receive onboard coaching from two of our professional race skippers before, during and after racing thus learning to become useful race crew member! We have been competing in this race for the last 10 years and provide a competitive, calm and fun boat ensuring everyone is learning as much as possible. You can book a place on our yacht or hire a whole yacht with your own team members.
We have plenty of experience in racing and have competed regularly in Cowes, Round the Island Race and the Fastnet. We also offer quality instruction with our experienced and professional RYA instructors. We will provide a competitive, calm and fun boat ensuring everyone is learning as much as possible.
