Lagoon Watersports @ Hove Lagoon

Hove Lagoon is a truly unique watersports location not just in Brighton but the UK. With a sheltered shallow lagoon for beginners and the sea nearby, it is one of the best watersports venues around.

Hove lagoon is right on the seafront at the western end of the Brighton and Hove promenade. We are approximately 3 miles directly west of the Pier along the promenade. We are the two storey building on the south side of Hove Lagoon. Come up the steps at the eastern end of the centre and find us in the office

The safe, shallow and sheltered waters of the Lagoon enable you to progress rapidly as :

  • Waist deep water means you can get on and off easily saving energy
  • There is no current or tide
  • The flat water makes it so much easier to balance and get started than the chop of the sea even on a calm day
  • The flat water makes it much easier and quicker to learn the correct technique and progress quickly
  • Lessons are almost never cancelled due to rough weather that can prevent you getting on the sea
  • We are right next to the sea, if the conditions are suitable you will get to go on the sea
  • Excellent clubhouse facilities with changing rooms, hot showers, cafe offering BBQ’s, great coffee and free WiFi
  • Lagoon Watersports is an RYA, BWSW and BSUPA school with staff that are passionate and active in all sports taking part at both local and national level.

We advise planning your trip using the excellent Journey on web site

We do not have our own car park. There is parking within a very short distance of Hove Lagoon. If you are unfamiliar with the area please allow extra time to park.

There is parking on Wharf road opposite Hove Lagoon. This is free but limited to 4 hours. This area can fill up quickly in the summer and we would advise car sharing.

There is metered parking on the southside of the A259 Kingsway.

There is free parking in the residential area to the north of the A259 Kingsway. There are some resident restrictions on roads East of Saxon Road. These do not apply to roads west of Saxon Road.

To find people to car share with please post on our facebook/hove lagoon or ask in the office and we will try and find someone that lives or passes your area.

The water in Hove Lagoon quality is tested regularly as part of the Brighton and Hove City Councils seafront beach water quality testing. Lagoon Watersports opened in 1994 , since that date the water in Hove Lagoon has passed every one with flying colours.

  • The water in the Lagoon is sea water rather than fresh water which prevents some common water quality issues that lakes suffer from.
  • The Lagoon is very shallow so the sun can penetrate to the bottom
  • There is a high level of evaporation and leakage in the Lagoon.
  • The Lagoon is topped up with fresh seawater every few days.
  • The sea water that goes into the Lagoon meets all bathing test requirements.
  • Natural algae growth occurs in the Lagoon. This algae can look unpleasant particularly when it blows to one corner of the Lagoon. It is harmless. The council treat the water with an organic substance to help suppress the algae growth.
