Open at the weekends for SUP and Windsurf Hire on the sea only

Corona Virus Update : We are planning to reopen in at Brighton Marin on June 15th. At Hove Lagoon we have a technical problem and our opening has been delayed.  Read full statement

Full reopening delayed

Unfortunately the pump that fills Hove Lagoon has broken and we will not be able to offer any wakeboarding, hire or tuition on the Lagoon. We understand how disappointing this is.

Obviously all memberships will be extended by this additional time that we are closed.

We are truly sorry. This is something totally beyond our control. We are working with the council to try and get them to have better backup options in place.

If the pump can be repaired we should have it back in about a week and then be able to start refilling the Lagoon. If a new pump is required it will take a bit longer. we will update members as soon as we can.

Limited Reopening on the sea from 6th June

SUP and Windsurf hire on the sea at the weekends can NOW be booked from the “Book Session” section below.

We will reopen from Saturday 6th June at weekends for sea SUPing and windsurfing for experienced members. To take advantage of this please  complete our online disclaimers for all members and our Unsupervised Hire forms below.

You will be able to book hire sessions soon.

We are almost ready to open…What happens next…

Rather than sign a disclaimer every time you come into the centre please could you sign our disclaimers online and these disclaimers will be valid for 1 year. Please sign the relevant disclaimers before booking. Thank you.

Hove Lagoon Plans to reopen in June

Based on government advice we have temporarily close both our centres. We are beginning to plan for reopening at Hove Lagoon but not at Brighton Marina. At Hove Lagoon Following a review of the government guidelines around outdoor activities and consultation with relevant National Governing bodies, we are tentatively putting our boards back on the water for some watersports activities, with restrictions in place, hopefully on June 3rd. Please keep a close eye on our phased opening plan. It is really important you understand what we are able to offer, how things will work and how to plan your visits to the Lagoon. Before we do that we would like to thank everyone that has supported us in this challenging time. We have been touched by the support we have received. One member kindly offered us their pension, we turned that down. We have felt the love and it has made a difference. So many people have and continue to be flexible and understanding. We could not have made it to this point without the support and flexibility of our suppliers and bank. We owe them a massive thank you for giving us breathing space. Our team of staff is who we are and before the furlough scheme was announced they made sacrifices. Without all of those things, things could have been very different. Thanks team we appreciate it. We are also indebted to the NHS and other critical workers, and without them we would not have the chance to even think about playing now.As we gear up to reopen we will need continued support and flexibility. As you are aware things will not be the same. There are going to have to be a lot of changes to adapt to the new environment. We will be opening with baby steps. Capacity has to be restricted. However, the fundamentals of the “Lagoon” will remain. The place, the people, the fun and the love of being on the water! Some people are very excited about us reopening. Others are not ready….we understand that. We are currently writing a phased opening plan, COVID Secure workplace plan, adapting risk assessments, operating procedures and staff training. This is not a 5 minute job! We will make the phased opening plan and COVID Secure workplace plan public in a few days. Unfortunately we do not currently have the required guidance from the government for all areas of our operation to even plan to reopen. These activities must remain closed.Advanced windsurfers : There will be less kit available that you are used to kit list available from June 3We have missed you!See you on the water…Soon

FAQ’s

As of July 2019 we have decided to restrict the use of the advanced windsurf boards ie the Fanatic Blasts and Freewaves to Gold Safety Card Holders only.

The reason for this :

Over the last few years the cost of windsurfing equipment has risen significantly. The Fanatic Freewave and Blast boards are advanced high tech windsurfing boards that retail for £1700.

These boards offer advanced windsurfers very high levels of performance and are some of the best boards on the market. However this performance comes at a price and that is the durability of these boards. They are not as durable as the Geckos.

We are finding an increasing amount of damage to these boards. This is causing frustration amongst advanced members who are unable to use them whilst they are being repaired and also has significant cost implications for us. Most of this damage is caused by catapults and mishandling when carrying or launching and landing. These are common issues for intermediate windsurfers.

To reduce the amount of time the boards are out of action for repair and reduce costs to the club and therefore to members we have decided to restrict the use of Blasts and Freewaves to Gold Safety Card holders.

In practice if you are not a gold safety card holder you are not going to get the benefits of these high performance boards and are likely to have a more enjoyable windsurf on a Gecko. Obviously exceptions can be made when we are short of equipment.

Where possible, on windy days, we will try and provide an additional member of staff to try and advise and help members with equipment management.

Gold card members wishing to hire Blasts and Freewaves will now have to collect the fins from the office and sign boards in and out.

We have the following rules to enable everyone to share the cable availability. If  you cannot find a wakeboard session to book please contact us and we will help you find a space.

  1. Your membership entitles you to book up to 2 free wakeboard ride sessions per day except Sundays which is 1 session. (We reserve the right to change this at amy time. eg during the COVID-19 restrictions it will be one session per day)
  2. You may only book up to 4 wakeboard ride sessions in advance.(We reserve the right to change that at amy time. eg during COVID-19 restrictions it will be two sessions in advance)
  3. Additional slots can be booked at a cost of £10 per session online with the discount code "RIDE"
  4. If you cannot attend your session it is essential you cancel it so other members can wakeboard. Demand frequently exeeds availaibility. Cancellations must be done online. There will be no charge. If you do not show up for your session, the first time this happens we will turn a blind eye to it. After that you will not be able to use the cable until you pay £10 for the missed session.
  5. You must book your ride sessions online
  6. If you cannot find ride sessions to book please contact us and we can try and add additional sessions for you. We consider any member taking more than 40 ride sessions per season to be getting a great deal and will give priority to members riding less and are having difficulty in finding sessions.
  7. Hire boards cost an extra £5 unless you have included them in your membership. If you have included hire boards in your membership and you later purchase a board there will be no refund.
  8. There is no wakeboarding until 2pm on Sundays as the model boat club have the use of that part of the lagoon.
  9. Wakeboard cable systems can and do go wrong and break. In the event of a technical failure we will prioritise rebooking your sessions but there will be no refunds.

Club members may go on the sea when we are running instructor led training clinics or supervised hire sessions with safety cover.

Once we are able to resume small group tuition we will publish our sea clinic plans. but there will be more clinics that in previous years.

Safety Cover times

Will be notified via social media and on the members web site as short notice based on the conditions, tides and staff availability.

Lagoon Watersports operates by offering tuition to the public, groups and hire (membership) in multiple activities. Not one activity or element is big enough to sustain the centre on its own. The success of the centre is based on multiple activities balancing the three elements of tuition, groups and hire.

Our success is based on introducing new people to watersports and providing a route for them to practice and progress.

In practice this means members do not have sole use of the equipment or cables. There are times that you may not be able to gain access to the equipment or cable time you want as it is being used for another part of the operation. We know you want to get out on the water as much as possible and we provide as much availability of equipment, staff and wakeboarding time as possible. Please understand the facilities are for the use of a wide range of customers and not just Club Members. Sometimes it may not be possible for you to get your preferred session times.

If you have any difficulties please contact us.

Your membership will end after 12 months at which point you can decide if you wish to rejoin. All communication regarding membership administration must be sent to tigger@lagoonwatersports.co.uk

If you are paying by monthly payments these should stop when your membership ends. BUT it is your job to ensure that your bank follows the instructions on the standing order mandate correctly. We strongly advise you to check that the payments have stopped. We will not be li- able for a mistake made by your bank and will not return over payments.

By choosing to pay by Standing Order you are accepting that you are liable for the payment of the full annual membership fee. It is not a monthly membership fee, it is a way to enable you to spread the cost of your membership over 12 months.

We will not refund a membership for any reason. eg job relocation.

Illness or injury

In the event of illness or injury making it impossible for the customer
to use the facilities, Lagoon Watersports will consider a membership holiday period until the customer is able to use the facilities again. No refunds will be made and full payment for the membership period is still due. The maximum length of any holiday period is 12 months.

Your membership period you pay for is for our "summer season" First weekend in April - October 31st. Any winter, November 1 - March 31, opening is a free bonus for members.
