COVID-19 Changes for under 18’s

To enable young people to continue enjoying watersports with us and remain safe we are making changes to the way we run our sessions for under 18’s.

The situation is continually changing. This is current as of 05/06/2020

  • Social distancing applies at all times, except in emergency situations, to customers and staff.
  • Outside of the state school summer holidays students will be grouped into bubbles of 5 with a dedicated instructor (There may be occasions the instructor has to change. We will try and minimise any changes)
  • During the state school summer holidays the government guidance changes and bubbles can be as large as 15 just for the school holidays. We will be adjusting bubble sizes based on the course and number booked in a range of 2 – 8. for kids activity week it will be 6.
  • Students that are on a course lasting more than one session will be given a wetsuit and buoyancy aid for the duration of the course. These items should be taken home at the end of each day and brought back for the following days activities (please remember to bring a plastic bag to put them in). At the end of the course the items must be returned to us and we will clean and quarantine them. Parents will need to take responsibility for these items whilst in their care. If you have your own wetsuit please feel free to use it.
  • For kids activity weeks we will have up to 25 kids in much bubbles of 5. Other kids and adult sessions will be running in bubbles. Numbers on the Lagoon and land will be restricted to 30 on the water, plus 12 wakeboarding and 12 on the sea. Numbers will be restricted in the building.
  • Please bring footwear for the students to wear on the water.
  • If the course includes a lunch break this will take place within the student bubbles and social distancing will apply.
  • Where possible, students will be given their own equipment for each session and equipment swapping will be kept to a minimum. eg each student has their own board and paddle for a session.
  • All equipment will be regularly washed down pre and post session by Lagoon Watersports staff.
  • Hand washing will occur between sessions.
  • The changing rooms may or may not be available (subject to government advice). If they are available the numbers within the changing rooms will be limited and controlled. We aim to provide some temporary outdoor changing facility but please come prepared for the students to change outside.
  • Any catering will be take away only.
  • Please help us reduce queues on day 1 by completing consent forms and disclaimers online at www.lagoon.co.uk/activity-disclaimers/
  • To ease daily check in and out we are trying to create an online system. It may or may not be ready in time.
  • Please keep valuables to a minimum. We will provide bag storage and wipes to clean bags.
  • Please take extra care to take all belongings home with you at the end of the session.
  • If parents stay to watch sessions please maintain social distancing.
  • If we are unable to deliver the course due to Corona Virus we will NOT be able to offer refunds. We will provide a full credit that can be used on any activities we offer that is valid for 24 months.

The water quality in Hove Lagoon is independently tested regularly during the summer season as part of the Brighton and Hove City Councils seafront beach water quality testing. Lagoon Watersports opened in 1994 , since that date the water in Hove Lagoon has passed every test.

Independent water quality test results from 2017  testing

Total Colibacteria

Faecal Colibacteria

Faecal Enterococci

  • Natural algae growth occurs in the Lagoon. This algae can look unpleasant particularly when it blows to one corner of the Lagoon. It is harmless. It is NOT blue/green algae that fresh water lakes can suffer from.
  • Sometimes there is a smell. This smell is caused by the natural process of the algae.
  • Brighton and Hove City Council treat the water with an organic substance to help suppress the algae growth.
  • The water in the Lagoon is sea water rather than fresh water which prevents some common water quality issues that lakes suffer from.
  • The Lagoon is topped up with fresh seawater every few days.
  • The Lagoon is very shallow so the sun can penetrate to the bottom.
  • There is a high level of evaporation and leakage in the Lagoon.
  • The sea water that goes into the Lagoon meets all bathing test requirements.

Changing Bookings

When you make a booking with us we assign staff and equipment to deliver the booking. That means we are unable to offer that space to anyone else.

If you cancel that space we are likely to incur a loss.  We will have already made commitments to staff and we may have turned away other bookings. We are unable to get insurance that covers us for this loss.

We therefore do not offer refunds for cancellations. If we did not do this we would have to put up our prices for everyone.

Our cancellation policy applies in all circumstances including no shows, illness, relocation, transport failure and bereavement.

Postponement by us due to Corona Virus

All bookings made after 23/03/2020 that cannot take place due to Corona Virus will be rescheduled, or a credit will be added to your account for the value of the payment made. The credit is valid for 2 years and can be used for any activities we offer including gift vouchers. No refunds will be given in any circumstances.
