Super SUP Sunday 2013 Harvey Dawkins2018-02-09T11:51:26+00:00 The annual Super SUP Sunday had the perfect setting – the sun was shinning, the wind was light and the water flat! Starting the day off with a spot of coaching from Sam Ross and lots of demo kit to try out from Fanatic, the turn out was amazing, all ages and abilities were getting involved. George Land from the SUP Side of Life organised a Pink Paddle Out, which was an awesome success with lots of ladies never having been on a SUP getting out on the sea. The first race was a Battle of the Paddle 5k race out on the sea; there were classes for all abilities – a 12.6” and Fun board categories. Leading the way all the way round was super fast Roman Frejo, battling for 2nd place was Sonny EZ and Sam Ross, with Sonny taking the lead in the final stages and piping Sam to 2nd place. In the fun board categories Mike Herbert was extremely quick overtaking a few guys on race boards to take 1st place. An awesome effort was made by all, with two laps round a buoyed course being completed. Kids 1st – Lucas Meldrum 2nd – Dan Priddey 3rd – Chad After a BBQ break the head to head sprints were commenced and everyone got competitive, with even Nik Baker getting involved! After several heats the final was announced: Sam Ross, Sonny EZ, Roman and James Hart. The finalists took their places and the whistle blew. In his 2nd stroke Roman’s paddle snapped and was out of the race. The battle commenced with Sam Ross showing his speed and power to race past and take 1st.
